Activator Methods®, ART, or Spinal Decompression for Neck Pain?

activator-tool-on-male-patient-upper-back-sqIf you’re dealing with neck pain or cervical strain, it’s normal to wonder which chiropractic approach may be the right fit. Neck discomfort can present as stiffness, limited range of motion, shoulder tension, or soreness that worsens throughout the day. Because multiple factors can contribute, including posture, stress, muscle tension, and joint restriction, care is not one-size-fits-all.

At The Healing Path Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, we use a variety of techniques to support spinal mobility and reduce mechanical stress in the neck. Your assessment helps guide which methods may be appropriate for you.

Manual Chiropractic Adjustments

Manual adjustments are hands-on techniques designed to support joint motion in the cervical spine. They may be considered when restricted movement or postural strain appears to be contributing to neck discomfort. Adjustments can be adapted to suit different comfort levels and care goals.

Activator Methods® Adjustments

Activator Methods uses a small handheld instrument to deliver a precise, low-force input to specific spinal segments. This option is often considered for neck pain when someone prefers a gentler approach or is sensitive in the cervical area. It allows for targeted support without manual twisting.

Active Release Technique® Care

Active Release Technique focuses on muscles, tendons, ligaments, and fascia that influence neck and shoulder movement. It combines specific contact with guided movement and is often used when muscle tension, overuse, or restricted soft-tissue motion contributes to cervical strain or stiffness.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression applies a controlled stretching force to reduce loading through certain areas of the spine. For some people with neck pain, it may be considered when assessment findings suggest disc-related irritation or nerve sensitivity, or when reducing mechanical stress is a priority.

How We Help You Decide

Your first visit includes a review of your health history, lifestyle, and activity level, along with an assessment of spinal mobility and function. We explain our findings, discuss your goals, and outline techniques that may be suitable for your neck pain, often combining these with home care such as stretching, strengthening, and ergonomic guidance.

If you’re unsure which chiropractic approach is right for your neck pain, contact our Burlington practice today to book an assessment. We’ll help you make a confident and informed decision.
