Physiotherapy in Burlington

Woman doing knee exercisesPhysiotherapy is a form of rehabilitative health care concerned with human function and movement, and maximizing potential. Ultimately, the focus is reduction of pain and correction of dysfunction and injury. Since its emergence as an independent medical specialty over 100 years ago, treatment techniques have evolved, and increased the range of special services and people helped.

At The Healing Path Chiropractic and Wellness Centre, from expert diagnosis to treatment and disease prevention, our registered physiotherapist, manages and treats all disorders and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. We help our patients grow stronger and more independent by focusing on the systems of the body related to movement and muscle strength.

By helping your body move and function to its fullest, physiotherapy may improve the quality of your life and make you stronger by improving your flexibility, freedom, mobility, vitality and so much more.

Our therapist is educated in anatomy, physiology, physical function, disease, and injury, and trained to treat people of all ages with musculoskeletal, respiratory, and neurological conditions. He keeps his skills and knowledge of current techniques up-to-date, with courses and seminars, often focusing on a specific area, i.e., sports or arthritis care.

What to Expect

Our goal is to improve mobility and strength, relieve pain, and restore physical function. This allows you to resume your daily activities, including work, school, recreational activities, home-making, and self-care. In severe cases of injury or disease, we will assist you in returning to your maximal function.

With a range of modalities including ultrasound, IST, shockwave, cold laser, corrective exercise, soft mobilization, or other tools and treatments, physiotherapy helps address musculoskeletal conditions that limit movement and cause pain to restore strength, improve balance, and gain greater mobility and range of motion.

Integrating physiotherapy and chiropractic care provides better long-term benefits and successful outcomes. Chiropractic care uses adjustments; physiotherapy uses movements—both work together to speed your recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this service covered by OHIP?
No, we don’t take OHIP, but extended health benefits cover physiotherapy.

Is this service tax deductible?

Yes.

What should I wear to my appointment?

We recommend you wear loose-fitting clothing, such as gym attire.

How long does a session take?

It varies. The initial visit is generally one hour. Then from there, a session could be 30 or 45 minutes long; it depends on what the therapist is working on.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you’re coming in for. The physiotherapist will assess the area and make the determination. For example, if you have a sprained ankle, you may just need four visits. If you’re recovering from a knee surgery, you may require 12 visits. It’s very patient dependent.
Does physiotherapy hurt?
There are many modalities involved in our physiotherapy program. These include shockwave therapy, ultrasound, cold laser, and manual therapy. Some patients may find different therapies uncomfortable but other patients may not experience any discomfort from the same modalities.

If any therapies are uncomfortable for you, please let the therapist know. There are other options that can be used.

Can I receive more than one physiotherapy option?

Yes, in one physiotherapy session, we can treat different body parts and use several modalities. That’s very common as physiotherapy and chiropractic work hand in hand as part of a treatment plan. With a lot of our chiropractic patients, there’s a big rehabilitation component to their care plan.

Do you give anything for post treatment care after a physiotherapy session?

Yes, we usually give each patient an exercise program.

Do you provide pelvic floor physiotherapy?

No, but we refer out for that service because most of the patients that suffer from pelvic floor issues are female. Because of the invasiveness of the procedure, and the work required for pelvic floor issues, most patients prefer a female therapist. We can refer you to one in the area.

What types of conditions or issues can be addressed with physiotherapy?

Anything and everything. These include sprains and strains, low back and neck pain, post surgical rehab, tendinitis, core stability, and frozen shoulder.
